Standard and low cost airline companies fly direct from many European cities to the nearest airport of Bari, only 45 minutes away.

My Italian Job will provide transfers from the airport to a hand picked hotel found in the heart of the Sassi, the historic centre of Matera. Each room is a unique ‘rock dwelling’ converted to include all modern day comforts whilst retaining the charm of its ancient past.

It is well worth a guided tour of the Sassi and rock churches to fully appreciate the special characteristics of Matera. My Italian Job will provide a tour with an experienced English speaking guide who will explain the historical and architectural aspects of the Sassi and rock churches, including the lifestyle of the local peasants that used to live in the cave dwellings and a visit to local arts and crafts workshops.

During the rest of your time in Matera you can lose yourself in the narrow streets of the Sassi and discover the bars and restaurants hidden in the ancient caverns where it is possible to enjoy authentic local cuisine.  It is also recommended that you visit the attractive ‘modern town’ where you can find the shops and fashion for which Italy is so famous.

My Italian Job will provide an information pack containing details that may be useful during your weekend such as maps, restaurant, pizzeria and bar recommendations, plus shops and market opening times etc…And of course we will always be available for any further queries throughout your stay.
