Wandering around the historic centre it is possible to see the preserved character of a typical medieval fortress. The architecture of the buildings illustrates the styles of all the dominations of Irsina including the Lombards, Normans, Byzantine and Saracen conquests. Historically, Irsina held a very strategic position in the region and many battles in the struggle for power and land took place here, details of which can be found in the museum. There is also an impressive 13th century Cathedral and it was discovered in 2004 that the V century statue of the village Patron Saint ‘Eufemia’ is, in fact, the work of the Renaissance master ‘Mantegna’.
